Our Story: Building a Trusted Community Business
Terry Southard’s roots in rural North Carolina farming sparked a lifelong interest in agriculture and entomology, leading him to earn his agriculture degree from North Carolina State University. After gaining experience in corporate pest control and lawn care, he realized his dream: to build a business that served his community.
With his wife’s support, Advance Pest Control was established in 1998, starting as a home-based operation. Terry focused on providing reliable, affordable pest control, with a commitment to educating his customers. He worked tirelessly to build a team of skilled technicians.
Even as Advance Pest Control expands to serve communities across North Carolina, Terry remains dedicated to his core values. He continues to share his extensive knowledge (see our pest library) , ensuring customers have the information they need.

Mr. Young arrived promptly, actually a little bit early. He was very polite, professional and friendly. My crawl space is sealed and I leave a box of booties and a request that people wear booties when they “crawl” inside it – to keep it clean and contamination-free. Without even my saying anything, Mr Young saw the request and wore the booties – I am impressed and appreciative. Additionally, I asked him a question about how he does the crawl space inspection, since it is sealed. He kindly explained to me how there is a special cutout at the top of the seal to enable him to do his inspection. That was very informative and stopped my puzzlement. Looking forward to his next visit.
